Directory assistance used to be
free, but now most of the telephone companies charge a small fee for it.
You might be allowed a certain number of free requests per month,
though.

country.
Reverse Directory Assistance:
Provide a phone number to get the listed name and address (including ZIP code) associated with listed local and nationwide numbers. To use the service, call 411.

Non-Published Service:
Your telephone number will not be printed in the local telephone
directory nor will it be given out by Directory Assistance.
Non-Listed Service:
Your name, telephone number and/or address will be given out by
Directory Assistance, but not printed in the local telephone directory.
Omit Address:
Your address can be removed from the telephone directory as well as Directory Assistance records. Removal will be continued in successive directories without further requests until you request publication of part or all of the deleted address information in the directory. The service is available at no charge.

Non-AT&T customers dial 10-10-ATT-00. It costs $1.49 for up to two
out-of-state or two yellow page listings, and 99¢ for two in-state
listings. AT&T will connect the call to the last listing requested
(customers pay applicable per-minute costs on the connected call).
Regular AT&T rates apply for connected calls placed
from phones subscribed to AT&T. AT&T non-subscriber rates apply
for connected calls made by non-AT&T customers using 10-10-ATT-00.

Yellow Pages Search: AT&T 00 INFO can also
